The Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN) is DoD's recognized research and engineering network. The DREN is a robust, high-capacity, low-latency nation-wide network that provides connectivity between and among the HPCMP's geographically dispersed High Performance Computing (HPC) user sites, HPC Centers, and other networks. The DREN Wide Area Networking (WAN)capability is provided under a commercial contract. The DREN WAN service provider has built DREN as a virtual private network based on its commercial l infrastructure

The SIPRNet (Secret Internet Protocol Router Network) is a system of interconnected computer networks used by the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of State to transmit classified information (up toand including information classified SECRET) by packet switching over theTCP/IP protocols in a "completely secure" environment
NIPRNet
NIPRNet (Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router Network) is used to exchange sensitive but unclassified information between "internal" users as well as providing users access to the Internet. NIPRNet is composed ofInternet Protocol routers owned by the United States Department of Defense (DOD). It was created by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to supersede the earlier MILNET.
JWICS
The Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications System (JWICS pronounced JAYwicks) is a system of interconnected computer networks used by the U.S.Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of State to transmit classified information by packet switching over TCP/IP in a secure environment. It is cleared up to Top Secret and SCI. It also provides services such as hypertext documents and electronic mail.
